Found Object Portraits

Date: September 11, 2008, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Program: Fall 2008 Daytime Workshops

Description

Piven calls his workshop "Drawing with Objects." The basic premise is that if you place a number of simple, ordinary objects in front of a person, any age, and ask them to create a portrait using those objects, you'll most likely get a surprising and ingenious result. Using objects to represent the features of a face or a character can be a stimulating artistic experience for people who might be self conscious about their drawing abilities and thus disenchanted with art activities. The idea is to demonstrate that it’s possible to 'draw' without a pencil and without a brush.

Guest Artists

Hanoch Piven is an internationally recognized illustrator who creates caricatures and illustrations using 3 dimensional objects rather than using pencil or brush. The significance of the objects he uses adds content and meaning and especially insight and humor to his portraits, in addition to physical resemblance.

For the past five years, Hanoch has been conducting workshops for children in schools, hospitals, kindergardens, community centers and art schools in all around the Globe.
