TOUR, EXPLORE, CREATE: Materials for the Arts offers group visits for participants of all ages and abilities.

Materials for the Arts, New York City's first municipal reuse program, is pleased to open its facility for scheduled group visits. Participants learn the "art of reuse" firsthand as they tour the warehouse, explore art made from sustainable materials and use their creativity to make artwork to take home.

All two-hour group visits include:

  • A tour exploring the variety of materials in the MFTA warehouse
  • A gallery program examining art that incorporates reuse
  • A studio session with a teaching artist, when participants reuse materials to make a sustainable art piece to take home

Sample art projects for studio sessions: Books, puppets, musical instruments, weavings, masks, hats and custom projects*

*MFTA teaching artists can customize your group visit and studio session to incorporate and reinforce classroom topics, contact Education staff for more information.

Visits for a maximum of 30 participants are available Monday through Friday and last approximately two hours, which can include time for lunch. Most visits are scheduled from 10:30 am-12:30 pm; other timeslots can be arranged if available. Groups must be accompanied by a chaperone, teacher or program representative at all times.
