Recipient Spotlight: The Kitchen

Thursday November 6, 2008

Category: MFTA in the News

If you are looking for something interesting to do this weekend, I strongly suggest taking a walk or the train to Chelsea and paying a visit to The Kitchen. Started in 1971, The Kitchen is a non-profit multi-purpose space sponsoring art exhibitions, theatrical and dance performances from artists who represent the full spectrum of expression and thought. The pieces they decide to produce are selected with the assistance of an artist advisory board who serve as scouts for new work and curators for their shows. Local partnerships with art and literary journals have resulted in well received panel discussions and readings with celebrated writers and poets. They currently occupy a three-story building on 512 West 19th Street that houses their gallery, a recently renovated black box theater and workshop. Making these shows for free or at a low cost to the public has been a hallmark of The Kitchen and has attributed to the respect and admiration they have earned from their patrons and peers. Please go to www.thekitchen.org  to find out more about their upcoming events.
