Thank you to everyone who attended our “Theater on the Cheap” workshop series. The reactions and results turned out better than we expected. On both Tuesday and Wednesday the classrooms were alive with the exchange of ideas. Whether it was discussing the time period style options available in our no-sew costume class or affordable lighting alternatives in our stage lighting class, many seemed to have taken with them some new tools and concepts for combating the real problem of rising production costs.
We discussed the need for greater communication between different disciplines of the arts and diversifying the way we network with each other. By learning as a group, we can understand entrenched technical practices through fresh eyes. In the end, a cross section of our artistic and social service community were able to get together and learn some basic tricks of the trade to use when approaching their next production roadblock. We received some great suggestions for our next series and have plans to use this opportunity as a chance to help build bridges between the performance companies we serve. Our second series is slated for late summer/ early fall so please continue to check our website for further updates. In the meantime, check out our new blog www.cheapandgreenproductions.wordpress.com for information concerning reuse in the performing arts and helpful resources to meet your technical needs. Many thanks to our teachers Joy Suarez, Chip Scott, and Jack Blacketer who provided some great insights into troubleshooting techniques. This workshop series could not have been possible without the generous funding from both The Edith Meiser Foundation and The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation.
Thanks again for your continuing support and look out for more to come. Until then... click here to see more images from the workshop series. Sincerely,
