P Credit Courses for DOE Teachers

P CREDIT CLASSES ♥ PD WORKSHOPS ♥ GROUP VISITS ♥ RESIDENCIESCOMMUNITY ART PROJECTS
Learn to make the most of the MFTA warehouse, see the potential of the materials you are throwing away and make art in a studio environment--all while earning P credits at Materials for the Arts.

Materials for the Arts is pleased to offer two courses for "P" In-service credit this spring:

creative infusion: the art of reuse (joy suarez, instructor)

This class consists of hands-on art-making workshops and focuses on incorporating arts into established curriculum by creatively addressing the Common Core Standards, the New York State Learning Standards and the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. While creating sustainable art projects relating to classroom topics, participants develop differentiated lesson plans for the variety of learning styles in their instructional setting.

Sessions include: Art of Reuse-an introduction to reusing materials and problem solving; Games and Game Boards-developing new games and replicating traditional games with reusable materials; Bookmaking-creating book structures to compliment a multitude of subjects; Theater-making costumes and set designs from reusable materials; Puppetry-a spotlight on the communication of stories through various media; and Mosaics-the integration of math and visual design.

3 "P" In-service credits

Total cost $365 (MFTA fee, $240 + ASPDP fee, $125)

The course meets from 9:30 am – 5:00 pm for six Saturday sessions at MFTA:

2/11/12, 2/18/12, 3/3/12, 3/10/12, 3/17/12, & 3/24/12

paper: from pulp to fiction (joy suarez, instructor)

Through hands-on art-making this course explores the historical, economic, scientific, social and mathematical properties that are inherent in the use and production of paper. Throughout the course participants develop art-integrated lesson plans that address the Common Core Standards, the New York State Learning Standards and the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.

Participants in this course learn sustainable techniques for papermaking, pen and ink, block prints, stenciling, silkscreen and collage. By reusing materials, participants create artwork with a low impact on the environment. By keeping a journal and sharing their research and best practices, participants develop lesson plans for the variety of learning styles in their specific instructional setting.

3 "P" In-service credits

Total cost $425 (MFTA fee, $300 + ASPDP fee, $125)

The course meets from 9:30 am – 5:00 pm for six Saturday sessions at MFTA:

4/21/12, 4/28/12, 5/5/12, 5/12/12, 5/19/12, and 5/26/12
