staff development workshop: "Artistic reuse to the (common) core"

Bring Materials for the Arts to your school to teach staff how to inspire students on a shoestring budget by integrating art projects made from free and readily-available materials into the Common Core Standards and the Children First priorities. Teachers will leave “Artistic Reuse to the (Common) Core” with a fresh look at how to set up a functional reuse/recycle classroom: reuse and recycling bins, reuse bulletin boards and lots of free or low-cost art projects made with common materials that are free and easy to collect all year long. Teachers will have plenty of studio time to work with materials and everyone leaves with prototypes to take back to their classes.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP: teaching the math common core with art (k-5th grades)

Learn to inspire and engage students in K-5 math classes using art projects to teach the Common Core Mathematics Standards.

Teaching artists Joy Suarez and John Kaiser will show teachers and school staff free or low-cost art projects including Weavings, Board Games, Math Materials (counting sticks, manipulatives) and Mosaics, which can be used to reach different types of learners in math. Participants will have plenty of studio time to develop projects suited for their specific instructional settings and everyone will leave with prototypes for use in the classroom.
